MICROCARRIER TM GEL-TR
Cat. No. MR 123
Store at 4 C.
NOTE: These products have been replaced by PolyAcryl Carrier (cat. no. PC 152).
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
MicrocarrierTM Gel-TR is an ultra pure, RNase-free,
DNase-free polysaccharide gel designed specifically for the isolation of small amounts of
RNA and DNA using TRI Reagent® (cat. no. TR 118). Composed of predominantly high-molecular weight polymer
of a-D-glucose, MicrocarrierTM
Gel-TR does not affect the activities of enzymes used for analysis of DNA and RNA such as
restrictases, reverse transcriptase, Taq polymerase, DNA polymerase or ligase.
MicrocarrierTM Gel-TR can be used for RNA/DNA isolation
for at least one year when stored at 4 C. The shelf-life can be extended beyond one year
by storage at -20 C.
APPLICATION,
Perform homogenization (or lysis) of samples in 0.8 ml of TRI Reagent (or in 0.75 ml of TRI Reagent LS (cat. no. TS 120) or TRI Reagent BD (cat. no. TB 120)) supplemented with 2 - 8 µl of MicrocarrierTM Gel-TR. With larger reagebnt volumes, do not use more than 10 µl of carrier per isolation. Following homogenization, add bromochloropropane (BCP) (cat. no. BP 151) or chloroform and proceed with phase separation and other steps of the RNA and DNA isolation as described in the standard protocol.
Microcarrier Gel contributes to the optical density of the resulting RNA preparation, but
does not affect the optical density of the DNA preparation. For most accurate RNA qunatification, process a "blank" sample containing only carrier (no RNA) with each experiment. Optical density readings obtained with the blank should then be subtracted from readings for experimental samples. For a more detailed description, see Technical Bulletin No. 3.
